
PULSE Studios: Building a Community Through Dance
PULSE Studios is Calgary’s largest Hip Hop dance studio, rooted in authenticity and dedicated to preserving and promoting real Hip Hop and Streetdance culture. Founded by Tara Wilson — a passionate leader and community builder — PULSE welcomes world-class instructors year-round and connects with a thriving dance community of over 8,000 strong.
Project
Marketing Movez supports PULSE Studios with a well-rounded content and communication strategy designed to engage their vibrant dance community of over 8,000 contacts. Each month, we:
- Create segmented email newsletters tailored to 4–5 unique audience groups within the PULSE network. These newsletters include custom graphics and compelling, community-centered copywriting.
- Produce and edit monthly video newsletters, displayed on lobby TV screens to keep dancers and families informed and inspired while they wait between classes.
- Write and publish two monthly articles: one focused on SEO to drive organic traffic, and another spotlighting the people of PULSE — from founders and admin to teachers and students — sharing their authentic dance journeys.
- Provide monthly metrics reports to track engagement, performance, and continuous improvement opportunities.
Together, these efforts strengthen PULSE Studios’ brand presence, foster deeper community connection, and support growth through strategic, dance-focused marketing.

Reflection
Working with PULSE Studios has been an inspiring and fulfilling experience for Marketing Movez. Each month, we meet with Tara Wilson to align on upcoming news, events, and updates to be featured in the next newsletter. These meetings set the tone for a seamless workflow — from mapping out the newsletter content in Google Sheets to drafting the copy in Google Docs.
Once we’ve confirmed the direction, we begin by creating custom graphics, which are then linked directly to the newsletter plan. With full creative autonomy on the visuals, we’re able to design assets that are both on-brand and visually engaging. The written content follows next, with each news item crafted to reflect PULSE’s voice — clear, authentic, and community-focused.
Before moving into production, we always ensure Tara has reviewed and approved both the visual and written assets. Once approved, we build out the email and video newsletters, send a final draft for review, and schedule the release. After each campaign goes out, we closely monitor performance metrics — open rates, click-throughs, bounces, and unsubscribes — and use those insights to guide improvements in our next monthly meeting.
Beyond the strategy and structure, this project has been genuinely enjoyable. Creating the graphics and writing the content is not only fun but creatively energizing. Our favourite part? Writing the monthly articles that strike a balance between SEO performance and human storytelling — celebrating the people who make up the heart of PULSE.
