Project
The Dance Video Collection (DVC) is a passion-driven film series led by Marc Generoso, developed before the launch of his formal marketing work. Tasked with reimagining traditional live dance performances, Marc transformed competitive and recital-ready routines into short cinematic dance films — each with a unique story line and character arc
He scripted all 33 dance films, weaving narrative and emotion into every piece to elevate the performances beyond choreography. Marc assembled a dedicated film crew and pitched the concept to over 100 dance families across Vancouver Island, gaining their trust and support to bring the vision to life.
Once approved, the production was scheduled in waves — 10 films at a time — coordinated around the availability of both families and studio spaces to maximize efficiency. With the help of sponsors and the participating dance families, Marc oversaw the coordination of locations, props, costumes, and rehearsals, ensuring every detail supported the visual storytelling.
Post-production was a major pillar of the project. Each film underwent creative editing, colour grading, and visual effects to craft a polished, emotionally resonant final product. The result was a one-of-a-kind dance film series that blended movement with cinematic artistry.
Each year of the project culminated in a special screening for the Vancouver Island dance community, celebrating not only the dancers but the shared experience of creativity, storytelling, and collaboration.

Results & Impact
The DVC evolved into a transformative experience for dancers, families, and the wider Vancouver Island dance community. What began as a single creative experiment quickly grew into a community-wide tradition. The overwhelming success of the first project led to three additional production cycles — each featuring ten cinematic dance films, with the final series culminating in three specially curated films that brought the entire journey full circle.
For the youth involved, DVC was more than just a project — it was a chance to step into the world of storytelling and film. The experience sparked newfound confidence and creativity, with several dancers going on to pursue film and commercial work, inspired by their time on set. Parents and dancers alike cherished the opportunity to be part of something uniquely collaborative and meaningful.
The studio itself has seen significant growth, now serving over 500 dancers — a testament to the positive cultural impact and visibility DVC helped generate. Most importantly, the films created through DVC have become timeless keepsakes for families. These stories, captured through movement and lens, live on as treasured memories — replayed and relived for years to come.

Reflection
For Marc Generoso, the DVC Project was an incredible journey that tested and expanded his creative and professional abilities. From directing and scriptwriting to marketing, scheduling, and team coordination, the project challenged him in every area and became a true test of adaptability and growth.
Marc was intentional about making the experience enjoyable and stress-free for the dance families involved — especially the young dancers. Ensuring they had fun on set and felt valued throughout the process was a core part of his vision.
What made the DVC Project especially meaningful was its originality. It was a series of cinematic dance films unlike anything the community had seen before — and nothing quite like it has been created since. Through the process, Marc discovered just how capable he was, learning to overcome challenges by researching, problem-solving, and staying committed to the vision. The experience became a defining moment in his creative journey.
